About me and my approach
One day, about 15 years ago I was sitting on a soccer field when I first thought that maybe, just maybe, I could make a change for the better. And so I went back to school in a field of study that was academically new but a life long interest: psychology.
As a licensed marriage and family therapist I am continuously educating myself in new and advanced fields of study, and furthering my expertise in child, adolescent, play-based, and trauma informed therapy. As a member of the American Association of Marriage Family Therapists, Texas Association of Marriage Family Therapists, and Texas Play Therapy Association, I remain involved in the wider field of psychology, psychotherapy research, and evidenced based therapeutic results. I am committed to promoting individual resiliency, fulfilling relationships, and community connectedness.
It is my philosophy that good therapy is founded on evidence based strategies, willingness rooted in hope, trust and mindful awareness, and a profound sense of safety. Safety that comes from knowing that you are understood, welcome, and most of all, free from judgement. I believe you or your child will find my office to be this safe place. Within my walls you are free to explore ideas, develop new ways of thinking, and create new ways of interacting with yourself and the world in which you live.
Areas of clinical expertise include helping individuals of all age’s process through trauma, manage emotions, develop more empathetic views on the world, and explore the many roads to living mindfully. With both a clinical and academic background, I am uniquely qualified in the disorders of childhood and educationally related challenges such as ADHD, anxiety, and social insecurities. My work with Children and Adolescents goes beyond just therapy--I am here to support parents and their students in the school environment and can assist with evaluations, attend meetings, and review educational plans. I have extensive experience supporting students with disabilities and special education needs. I will work collaboratively with you and your school to ensure that your child is getting all the necessary supports to fully access learning.
In my free time I enjoy cooking, attending baseball games with
friends and family, running with my dog Lando,
and exploring my fantastic new community in Houston, Texas.

If you would like to learn more, I offer face to face initial consultations free of charge. As a strength based therapist I know that the single most important factor for success is the client-clinician bond; the ability of the client or family to feel emotionally safe in my office. I encourage all potential clients and their families to come in for a face to face consultation before we begin the therapeutic journey together. To schedule your consultation email me at gail@gailwilsonlmft.com
